"Fault line" is from the series The intelligence of feeling.
This new series, whilst drawing on scape, is defined by emotion stemming from feeling and considers vulnerability, difficulty, loss and the notion of sometimes feeling lost in liminal space..... the human condition. Fault line was painted with the memory of having been part of and a celebration of having survived the Tsunami on boxing day 2004 whilst on holiday in Sri Lanka with her husband and two young children.
Parr continues to explore the balance of chance and control during the painting process using oil, charcoal and acrylic, with pallet knife, brush cloth and sponge, building up layers and washing away in a process that becomes as important to remove as to add, a reverberation of relationship with the canvas of addition and subtraction, push and pull.
Signed and dated on the side of the canvas the painting is ready to hang. The canvas is deep edged which shows small signs of the working process to the canvas side.
