Having spent part of my childhood in Pompeii makes me feel connected in a special way to the archaeological sites of Campania and when, recently, I visited the ruins of Herculaneum, in the company of my father, who works with the Herculaneum Conservation Project, I felt a strong need to dedicate a cycle to this city. The result are these acrylic on linen or cotton canvases where the raw, unpainted canvas reveals the profile of the ancient buildings, while the modern ones are depicted by lines and colors in the aim to investigate the relationship between ancient and modern times - so crucial in Italy - and whether and how the ties survive over the centuries.
