"Desert island disk", oil, acrylic and charcoal on canvas, is from Parr’s new series The intelligence of feeling. She created the piece to convey a positive feeling of being alone, a calm serene space with reference to maps, memories and an absence of possessions, an ultimate place of nature and peace.
This new series, whilst drawing on scape, is primarily defined by emotion and feeling. The Artist continues to explore the balance of chance and control during the painting process, whilst remembering and considering absence, time, distance, vulnerability, difficulty, loss and the notion of sometimes feeling lost..... the human condition.
She uses pallet knife, brush and sponge building up layers and washing away in a process that becomes as important to remove as to add, a kind of reverberation of relationship with the canvas of addition and subtraction, push and pull.
Parr intends to create something that is metaphorical, ambiguous, chimerical, organic and elemental.
Signed and dated on the side of the canvas the painting is ready to hang. The canvas is deep edged which shows small signs of the working process to the canvas side.
