About Brazen Edwards

Brazen Edwards is a versatile artist that attended high school at the newly developed Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts then later enrolled in the BA Criminology Program at the University of Alberta and was given special permission to take Art Fundamentals as a component of her degree. She then went on to pursue a career with the RCMP and relocated to Kelowna, BC in 2009.

She found the region to be inspiring and realizing art was her true calling she began devoting herself to that pursuit in 2010 and has been fortunate enough to have her artwork collected internationally.

Brazen is on the Board of Directors for CARFAC BC and is a juried member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. In 2015, she created Ellis Art Studios, a 5000sq ft multi-disciplinary art facility that provides professional studio space and world-class educational programming to prepare artists, emerging or professional to become more successful in the art world.

Brazen Edwards' modernist abstraction explores the concept of line and form seducing the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium of flowing pigment that often portrays themes relating to her former career in Criminology. Movement is depicted and exists to punctuate a disconcerting visual drama as she endeavours to create an exploration between the viewer’s reality and the one imagined by its conceiver allowing a glimpse into the subconscious.

Although Brazen is able to treat the creation of the art as a serious matter using composition and design elements, she often likes to challenge the rules where her art undergoes a transmutation and a disconcerting beauty emerges that delves into topics that make many uncomfortable. The inherent visual seductiveness, along with the conciseness of the painting, further complicates their layers of meaning by investigating the dynamic of abstract form, its effects and the limits of spectacle.  Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination and breaks apart assumptions of what that particular imagery means to us.
